Decorative Fireplace Screens — Statement Pieces with Function

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a screen "decorative"?

Hand-forged scrollwork, cast medallions, twisted iron bars, or laser-cut artistic patterns. Decorative screens are statement pieces — they're meant to be seen as art when the fireplace is dormant, while still containing sparks during a burn.

Are decorative screens more expensive?

Yes — typically $1,200-$3,800. The price reflects hand-forging time, premium materials (wrought iron, brass inlays), and the artistic value of the design. Mass-produced spark guards run $300-$600 by comparison.

Do decorative screens still function as spark guards?

Yes — every decorative screen we sell includes a continuous mesh panel behind the decorative front. The decorative element is purely aesthetic. Sparks are contained by the mesh just like a basic spark guard.

Can I get a decorative screen in custom dimensions?

Yes — most decorative lines build to-order. Allow 4-6 weeks. The decorative elements (scrollwork, medallions) are often pre-made and assembled into the custom-sized frame, so the lead time isn't much longer than non-decorative custom.

What materials are used in decorative screens?

Hand-forged wrought iron is most common (Stoll Bar Iron line). Cast bronze and brass medallions for accents. Some contemporary decorative screens use laser-cut steel with intricate patterns. Mesh is always woven steel.

Will a decorative screen tarnish?

Wrought iron with oil-rubbed bronze or hammered black finish develops a deeper patina over years — many homeowners view this as desirable. Polished brass and copper accents tarnish without periodic maintenance (carnauba paste wax once a year).
