Stainless Steel Fireplace Doors — Premium Outdoor & Coastal

Frequently Asked Questions

What grade of stainless steel do you use?

304 stainless on most models — the same grade used in commercial kitchens and marine hardware. 304 contains 18% chromium and 8% nickel for corrosion resistance. A handful of premium models use 316 stainless (added molybdenum) for ocean-front applications where salt spray is constant.

Why is stainless steel more expensive?

Two reasons: the raw material costs roughly 4× plain carbon steel, and stainless requires specialized welding (gas-shielded TIG with stainless filler rod) that runs slower. Our stainless line starts at $2,200 vs. $1,295 for equivalent powder-coated steel.

Can I install stainless steel doors outdoors?

Yes — that's the primary use case. Outdoor kitchen fireplaces, lanai fire features, and coastal homes all benefit from stainless. The brushed and polished finishes are weatherproof out of the box; no annual maintenance is required.

Do stainless doors come in different finishes?

Yes — brushed (#4 satin), polished (mirror), and bead-blasted matte are the three standard surface treatments. Custom etched or patterned faces are available on premium lines. We don't powder-coat over stainless; the natural metal surface is the design feature.

How heavy are stainless steel doors?

Slightly heavier than carbon steel — stainless has higher density. A 36×26 stainless overlap door runs 55-70 lbs. Anchor hardware ships with the door; standard masonry anchors handle the weight without upgrade.

Is stainless steel non-magnetic?

304 stainless is austenitic and largely non-magnetic — magnets won't stick to most areas of the door. The hinges and some hardware components use stronger ferritic stainless and may attract magnets. Don't rely on magnetic latches with stainless doors.
