Start by identifying whether your fireplace is masonry (brick, stone, mortar joints) or prefab (metal box, refractory panels bolted in). What's the difference between custom and standard-size doors?
Standard-size doors come in fixed sizes (typically 36×26 to 42×30) and ship in 3-5 days starting at $865. Custom doors are built to your exact opening — to the 1/8 inch — and run 14-21 business days. Most masonry openings need custom because they're rarely square.
How long does a fireplace door take to ship?
Quick-ship Hearthcraft and Stoll Columbia doors leave the warehouse in 2-6 business days. Custom Stoll and Design Specialties run 14-21 business days. Premium Avalon, Bar Iron (ForgeLine), and plated finishes run 4-5 weeks. Every order ships free in the continental US.
Are fireplace doors covered under warranty?
Yes — every door on ExceptionalFire carries a 5-year warranty against manufacturing defects, frame welding failure, and finish blistering when used as directed. Glass breakage from impact and finish wear from abrasive cleaning are excluded. Full terms on the warranty page.
Do glass doors save energy?
Yes — when the fireplace is cold, closed glass doors stop room air from being pulled up the chimney by the natural draft. Industry estimates put the savings at 8-10% on heating bills in cold climates. During a burn, doors should stay open for radiant heat output and to feed combustion air.
Can I install a fireplace door myself?
Yes — every door ships with a hardware pack, install instructions, and template. Masonry overlap doors need a hammer drill with a 1/4-inch masonry bit; prefab doors anchor to existing factory mounting points. Plan on 30-60 minutes for the install. How do I know if I have a masonry or a prefab (zero-clearance) fireplace?
Look inside the firebox: real brick with mortar joints and a heavy hearth usually means masonry; a metal box with visible seams, louvers above or below the opening, and a manufacturer label means prefab / zero-clearance. How do I measure my fireplace for glass doors?
Measure the opening width at the top, middle, and bottom, and the height at the left, center, and right — to the nearest 1/8″ with a steel tape. Use the smallest width and height for an inside fit, and note any lintel bar. Should the glass doors be open or closed while the fire burns?

How long does a custom fireplace door take?
Custom doors are handcrafted in the USA and typically ship in 14–21 business days after your Expert Fit Review is confirmed. Standard-size doors ship faster. Each product page shows its current lead time.
Do fireplace doors actually help with energy bills?
Yes — mostly between fires. A chimney leaks conditioned air even with the damper shut; well-fitted glass doors seal the opening around the clock, in winter and summer. That’s why fit matters more than any accessory — and why every EF door is made to your exact opening.
