How do magnetic-mount doors stay in place?
The frame contains rare-earth neodymium magnets that bond to the steel face of a prefab fireplace. Pull strength runs 50-80 lbs per magnet, with 4-6 magnets per door. Once attached, the door withstands normal operation without slipping.
Will magnetic doors work on a masonry fireplace?
No — masonry (brick, stone) doesn't hold magnets. Magnetic doors only work on prefab fireplaces with a steel face plate or steel firebox surround. If you're unsure whether your fireplace is steel, hold a refrigerator magnet to the face — if it sticks, magnetic mount works.
Are magnetic doors safe under heat?
Yes — neodymium magnets retain their full strength below 175°F. The magnet placement on our frames keeps them outside the high-temp zone (above the firebox face). During a burn, the magnets stay below 120°F even with the doors closed.
Can I remove magnetic doors easily?
Yes — that's a feature. Pull straight out perpendicular to the face and the door releases. Useful for gas log service, chimney inspection, or seasonal removal. No tools needed.
Do magnetic doors come in custom sizes?
Yes — every magnetic-mount door is custom-built to your prefab face dimensions. Allow 14-21 business days. The magnet placement is calibrated per size to balance hold strength evenly across the frame.
Is magnetic stronger than screw-mount?
Screw-mount is more permanent but harder to remove. Magnetic is faster to install and service but slightly less rigid under heavy use. For fireplaces that get serviced annually (gas logs, ventless inserts), magnetic is the better long-term choice.
