How does an adjustable frame work?
Two telescoping side rails slide inside the main frame, expanding or contracting up to 4 inches per side. You install the door, then snug the side rails outward against the brick or stone until the gasket seals. No exact-measurement custom build needed.
What size opening does an adjustable frame fit?
Most adjustable-frame doors cover a 6-8 inch range. For example, a 36-42 inch wide adjustable door fits any opening in that span. Height adjustment is typically more limited (2-3 inches). Check the product page for the exact range per model.
Are adjustable-frame doors as good as custom?
For installation flexibility, yes — they handle out-of-square openings without measurement gymnastics. Aesthetically, custom doors hide the brick face better because the frame matches the opening exactly. Adjustable frames may show a small reveal where the telescoping rails sit.
How long do adjustable doors take to ship?
5-10 business days — they're semi-stocked. The frame ships in standard widths; the telescoping rails are added during quality check before shipping. Faster than custom (14-21 days), slower than quick-ship (2-6 days).
Can I lock the adjustable frame in place?
Yes — set screws hold the telescoping rails at your chosen position. Tighten with a 5/32 hex key (included). The frame becomes rigid once locked; no movement during normal operation.
Do adjustable frames work for prefab fireplaces?
Yes — most prefab models accept adjustable frames provided the face plate has at least 1.5 inches of flat steel around the opening. Stove-pipe sealed prefabs may not. If unsure, send your manufacturer plate photo to our team for confirmation.
