What Our Customers Say
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need a fireplace screen if I already have doors?
Glass doors should be open when a wood fire is burning at full intensity (heat buildup can crack tempered glass). A mesh screen stays closed during active fires — it blocks flying embers and sparks while letting heat radiate into the room. Best practice is to use both: the mesh screen during active fires, and the glass doors when the fireplace is cold to prevent drafts.
Mesh screen vs. glass screen — what's the difference?
Mesh screens (curtain or panel style) block sparks and embers while letting heat through — safe to keep closed during active fires. Glass screens (tempered glass panels) provide a sleeker look and full visibility, but typically aren't designed to remain closed during a roaring wood fire — they're often used decoratively on gas fireplaces or non-active masonry openings.
Are mesh screens safe with kids and pets?
Mesh screens are an essential safety barrier — they prevent stray sparks and embers from reaching flooring, furniture, or family members. The mesh itself does get hot during a fire and shouldn't be touched until cool. For households with toddlers or pets, look for our child-safe screen options with weighted bases, secure latches, and tip-resistant frames.
What size screen do I need?
For freestanding screens, pick a screen at least 3" wider on each side than the firebox opening, and at least 1"–2" taller than the opening height — this ensures full spark coverage. For fitted screens (those that mount inside the firebox), measure the opening at three points and use the smallest dimension. We custom-build screens to any size on request.
