The Majestic BR42 is the wide-body workhorse of Majestic's builder line: a 42-inch radiant, wood-burning, zero-clearance firebox that contractors installed by the thousands while the brand was under CFM Corporation ownership (1995–2008). Majestic itself dates back to 1894 and spent most of the twentieth century building fireplaces out of Huntington, Indiana, but the BR42 belongs to the era when factory-built fireplaces became standard equipment in American family rooms. Those factory bi-fold doors were never built to last as long as the house. On a Majestic unit, the rating plate is a metal tag fixed to the inside sheet-metal wall of the firebox — lean in with a flashlight and look along the side walls and just inside the lower edge. Tags may also carry the CFM name from that ownership period. BR42, BC42, and the rest of the 42-inch family
The BR42 is the radiant version of this chassis; the BC42 is its circulating twin, built with air channels for optional blowers. Both carry a listed door opening of 42 x 21 inches, which is why aftermarket listings almost always pair them. The Sovereign-line SR42 and SC42 are close relatives with the same door geometry, and the NVBR42/NVBC42 put a similar face on a B-vent gas chassis. One important caution from the parts market: listings for this family routinely exclude the later SR42A and SC42A revisions. The catalog number for this firebox is 42 x 21 inches, but never order from a catalog number. Field installations shift: surrounds get refaced, hearths get tiled, and openings end up a fraction off nominal.
